This handset is one of the four Windows Mobile devices that Acer launched sometime last month. The most important and noteworthy feature of this phone is that it provides the dual-SIM feature. This is a first of its kind phone that provides the dual-SIM feature for a Windows Mobile phone. The slots for both the SIM cards are located below the battery slot. A SIM manager function allows you to easily edit the contacts on the two SIM cards, and also while sending a message you can easily choose which SIM card to use. So, this phone is very well adept at handling the two SIM cards and does its job well while switching between the two SIMs.
Acer Tempo DX900 :Other Details
This phone is 3G enabled and includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features. There is also a built-in GPS receiver. You also have a pretty useful 3megapixel camera with LED flash, and there is also a smaller front-facing camera for video calling. It uses a Samsung SC3 6400 processor (533MHz), and has 256 MB of ROM and 128 MB of RAM, which aren’t exceptional, and lead to delay in the response time.
The touch-screen is sharp and bright, and has a resolution of 480X640. The screen isn’t very finger-friendly and you have to use the stylus. Along with the phone, you get a power charger, a stereo head-set, an extra stylus, a USB PC cable, a screen protector, a protective pouchm, and a start guide.
The outer body is designed almost flawlessly, and it is made from black plastic and has a rubbery finish with the area around the screen having a shiny finish. Along the edges, there are a host of slots and connectors. On the left side, you have a jack for the headset, above which you find a button for voice recording, and voice command centre. The left side also has the buttons for volume control. On the right side you have a slot for the microSD card and an integrated button for the camera.
The battery life is satisfactory, but if you are a big GPS/Wi-Fi addict you need to have a power plug-point somewhere near you.
Features:
The phone uses the 6.1 Professional version of Windows Mobile. Acer DX900 comes with some pre-installed features such as: Namecard Manager, Backup utility, Voice Command, Location SMS(you can send the latitude and longitude of your current location along with your text message), Easy qwerty keyboard. These extra applications although seem very useful, but actually they take up a lot of the RAM and de-grade the overall performance of the phone. This is one area where the phone isn’t up to the mark.
Along with these features, you also have the option of switching the screen orientation as and when you turn the phone in your hand.
Conclusion:
Therefore, if you are in the UK and want a Windows Mobile phone with dual-SIM support, the Acer Tempo DX900 is a great option you have. It is priced at around £400, and it does its essential job of handling the dual SIMs very well.
