D batteries or dry cells

D batteries are a type of cylindrical shaped battery that are widely used in big torch lights.

It is also known as a D cell and is the larges in the battery family of D, C, AA and AAA. These batteries are used in appliances that run for a longer duration. These kinds of batteries are needed in appliances such as large flashlights, radio receivers, transmitters, portable entertainment systems, products with motors, safety systems or other products that need extra running time because these batteries do not drain quickly. Both rechargeable and non rechargeable D batteries are available too. And the non rechargeable ones are called prime cells.

These D batteries can supply current much longer than the other AA, AAA batteries. This happens because of the large size of the battery. The large size supports and stores more electrode that supplies electrical current therefore they supply more power. But this is not the case with rechargeable D batteries. The rechargeable ones have lesser power than the non rechargeable ones because the rechargeable ones are like a normal AA battery from within and function also just like them.

But some companies like energizer make rechargeable D batteries which have a greater capacity and do not drain out fast. There are a few batteries available in the market that is D shaped but we should not confuse them with D batteries. These D batteries run many appliances and a very important tool that life to many gadgets.
