Excitebots is possibly one of the coolest Racing Games for the Nintendo Wii console. This fast-paced racing game gives you an experience of wacky items, tricky stunts, and goofball challenges that make the game even more exciting. It is a race of animal bots over the icebreakers of Finland and along the Great Wall of China. Frogs, ladybugs, grasshoppers, and many more creatures try to out beat each other in this game. Each robo-creature has a set of different attributes, which distinguishes it from the other creatures. For example, the turtle can comparatively pull off sweet drifts easily. The bots are very well animated and the way they set out to race makes them all the more fun to pilot.
Controls:
The controls are well tuned and quite simple. You tilt the remote to steer; for brakes, hit the 1 button. The button 2 is for gas and the D pad or B button activate turbo. You have to race well and perform stunts to succeed in this game. Stylish driving might earn stars. You can earn a few extra stars by spinning the bars that your robo-creature grabs out to when it comes across obstacles or challenges. However, you need to spin the bar while you are moving fast — a good sync and a great release without crashing will earn you that star. Moreover, you will come across quite a number of obstacles during the race so you have plenty of opportunity to earn stars all along. The challenges are varied and involve throwing a pie at a clown’s face, hitting a flaming baseball with a bat, or even catching a fish by casting a line into the water.
The Game:
The wrench is one of the wackiest items that mutates your bot into a two-legged creature. You have to glide through from side to side to take speedy steps. While running, your bot can do a number of things like kick opponents, grind rails, etc. In this state your bot is pretty much invisible and you don’t have to worry about crashing around, however, you need to be careful as your gas button does not work in this mode.
A great addition is the online feature which lets six players race online. This makes the game even more exciting as the bots are human-controlled. You can also send challenges to your friend by sending a replay or a score with a reward (stars), which they can earn by beating your score. However, joining the lobby while a game is already on might be a little inconvenient as you will have to wait till the race is over.
What’s more, stunts aren’t the only way you can earn stars. The game features short Poker tracks that let you earn stars and win the game by forming the best poker hand. You also have a mini game mode, which offers further diversions.
It has a few drawbacks though, for example, local races are limited to two players, and bar spinning might get a little annoying and restricted while racing locales. However, these do not diminish the fun quotient of the game at all. It is every bit as exciting as a game should be in order make it to your collection.
