XD memory cards can be defined as the flash memory cards that are used in the digital cameras. Initially, the XD memory cards were developed and sold in the market by only a two companies, that is, Olympus and Fujifilm. These cards were launched in the markets in the year 2002.
The memory cards were manufactured by Toshiba Corporation and Samsung Electronics and were supplied to the two companies that sold these cards in the market. Olympus and Fujifilm used these cards in their cameras. Today, these cards are manufactured by many other brands and sold by them along with the cameras.
These cards are an important accessory for the cameras and they need to be purchased separately by the users. Some of the cards do not carry the logo of the company but they are very successful products in the markets. The XD cards or the extreme digital cards are available in the market in various capacities. The capacities of these cards vary from as low as 16 MB to as large as 2 GB.
The users can pick any one depending on their requirements. With the advancement in the technology, the XD memory cards have also made progress and they are available in various types. The type S or standard cards are the original cards. Other than these, these cards are also available in multi level cell. These are known as Type M. There are also high speed XD memory cards available and they are known as Type H.
