Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2

The newest netbook from Lenovo features a unique design and good performance. The S10-2 is 0.2 pounds lighter than other netbooks in its line and 0.2 inches thinner than others. The cheap-looking S10-2 has a white, glossy, plastic lid with a circle-patterned imprint. The netbook is also available in pink, grey and black.

The netbook features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The graphics are powered by the Intel 945GSE chip which is good enough for casual users. The netbook comes with a 5,400 rpm, 160GB Western Digital hard drive. The S10-2 comes preloaded with Windows XP Home Edition.

The netbook has all usual ports including three USB 2.0 ports, built-in Ethernet, VGA, Audio I/O ports, a 4-in-1 card reader and Kensington Lock port. 802.11g Wi-Fi internet provides up to 20MBps speed from 15 feet. The 89% of full size keyboard is comfortable for long-time use. But, the keyboard does not measure up to the mark if you compare it with the market-leading models like Toshiba NB205 or Samsung N120. The touchpad is very small and uncomfortable to handle for a long time.

The 10.1-inch screen supports up to 1024×600 resolutions. The screen also has a built in 2MP webcam which produces pretty sharp images in enough light. The six-cell Li-ion battery lasts for about six hours.

While the laptop has decent performance, it fails to justify the price tag of $399. Other models in the series provide better fundamental features like keyboard and battery life.
