Memory card is a term which is known by anyone whether you’re a professional, a student, a working woman or a housewife. Memory card is an electronic device that is used to save data and files. It is a device which is generally used almost in every electronic device, be it camcorders, telephones, digital cameras, palm tops, laptops, CD players, DVD players, electronic devices and game consoles. A memory card generally is a solid data storage device. Mostly these are used in mobile phones and are much more reliable than hard disks because of their trusted durability.
The size of a memory card is comparatively smaller than a hard disk. Though, they appear smaller than hard disks, their logical size always outnumbers a hard disk. For the first time memory card was introduced in 1990 as PCMCIA. It was designed especially for laptops but later due to its utility, its demand grew manifold. In 1994, Compact flash got its place in the market which was to be used in digital cameras. Compactflash had to face stiff competition with many mushrooming brands in the market but it survived because of its reliable customer force.
Gradually, the demand for a memory card grew comprehensively and its size continued growing smaller in size. As a result, they became popular with mobile phones. Several modified versions kept flocking the market and with each modification, its size grew smaller and efficiency better. Some latest versions of a memory card includes the Memory Stick Micro and Memory Stick Pro Duo which are popularly used in mobile phones.
