MiniSD is a flash memory card format – the smaller version of the SD memory Card. SD stands for Secure Digital. It is a much preferred form of storage device because of its compact size.
Origin
SanDisk together with Toshiba and Panasonic with first introduced it in 2003. Later, the SD Card Association adapted the format as a second form factor in the SD group.
Features
MiniSD cards have the following features:
- It is much smaller in volume than an SD memory card
- It is narrow, short and thin
- It doesn’t have the writing protection switch
- It comes with a SD Memory Card adaptor (electro-mechanical)
- It compatible with all SD Memory Card slots and such compatible devices

- It has data transfer speed up to 12MB/sec – 80 X, both read and write
- The operating voltage of this card is 3.3V

- It tolerates wide ranging operating and storage temperature
- It can withstand operating shock of up to 2000 Gs (equal to 3m fall)
