Nikon D5000

Nikon D5000 is an entry level DSLR camera with advanced features and multiple external control options. The camera offers excellent picture quality, great and quick video capture, flip down LCD and a built-in wireless flash controller.

Design

The camera has a bulky look given its -55mm DX AFS-Nikon lens and comparatively large body. The camera’s convex grip side and beveled flash design imparts a stylistic appearance to this bulky camera.

Features

The 12.3 megapixel camera features a 15.8 x 23.6mm APS-C sized CMOS sensor instead of the CCD. The camera also features an articulated LCD and an improved version of AF system.

Another interesting feature is the newer version of the Expeed image processor (with improved Auto Active D-Lighting and face-priority AF) and enhanced Live View AF, along with a connector for the optional GP-1 hot shoe GPS.

The D5000 also features Eye-Fi support, which enables shooters to upload their photos and video directly from the camera to their computer or various online photo and video sharing sites.

The camera’s SD/SDHC cards can capture and keep JPEG and RAW images in 4288 x 2848, 3216 x 2136 and 2144 x 1424 resolutions. The D5000 records 1280 x 720 video at 24fps and is capable of VGA 640 x 424/24 fps and QVGA 320 x 216/24 fps resolutions as well.

The camera costs $730 for body only, $850 for body along with single lens and $1,010 for double lens. Thus given its interesting feature set and quick performance, the camera is worth the price.
