That’s the official slogan for the new Nintendo DSi, the third generation of the Nintendo DS hand-held. It is set to be released on April 2 in Australia, April 3 in Europe, and April 5 in the USA.
The eye
The “i” signifies the eye(s), which should also give you an idea about one of the new features that you can expect to see in it. If you’re thinking “camera”, you’re absolutely right. However, it’s Nintendo, so please don’t think of just a camera; think of two instead. Yes, the DSi features two cameras, one for you to take pictures of things, and the other to take your own pictures while you play.
The sound
Another most obvious change you would see in the DSi is the greatly improved quality and the volume of sound. Nintendo included “Codec IC”, which is primarily responsible for this.
The Interface
The DSi features a slightly bigger screen, which is 3.25” wide, as compared to its predecessor, which had a 3” wide screen. Despite the slight increase in its screen size, the folks at Nintendo managed to reduce the DSi’s weight slightly as compared to the DS Lite.
The Shop Function
Here’s another new major addon: you can download your own applications on the DSi. It contains 256 MB of internal memory and an SD card reader that you can use to store applications, music, photos, etc.
“My DS”
Nintendo is planning to introduce a new concept called “My DS”, which, as the phrase signifies, will allow the users to impart some of their personality to their DS. In the words of Kentaro Mita, the man in charge of lending support to the Console Features Review Team at Nintendo, “One important feature for the concept of My DS is being able to take and save pictures. You can view them on a screen larger than that of a cell phone, and place it on your desk like a photo stand. I want it to be a device that people will always keep out, on their desk for example, rather than stuff into their bag.”
Hardware for Nintendo DSi
With the new list of features, also come some great hardware upgrades. The hardware is twice as fast and the RAM is increased to 4 times as before.
Do R4’s work with NDSi?
With all these new upgrades and additional features, the DSi promises to enhance the experience of every DS user. However, while we’re busy describing the cool new features of the DSi, we bet you’re dying to know whether the new device will be compatible with those revolutionary things called as R4’s.
The R4 cards have been the next big thing among flash cartridges for DS and DS Lite. Nintendo, however, has gone a long way to ensure that these cards don’t work with the DSi. . There’s news that the new R4i Ultra Revolution for DS works on the DSi. Keep an eye on our new R4 zone for updates.
