From last year, rumours about Wii HD are circulating on the internet. A few weeks ago, Nintendo reportedly ended the gossip by issuing a public statement stating that no such technology is in development at Nintendo. As Nintendo replied to the rumours in such a hurry, the rumours about HD development are back in full throttle.
In the competitive gaming market, Nintendo’s chances of staying on top with Wii will be strengthened by the rumoured Wii Plus HD. If the rumour is assumed to be true, the technology might hit the stores at the end of 2010. Currently, Wii is on top of the chart because of its peripheral advantage like the Wii MotionPlus gaming controller and the fact that most of the new games are released for Wii platform too along with Xbox and PS3; its main competitors. It is almost certain that if Nintendo comes up with such technology by year-end 2010, Sony’s chances of making a comeback will virtually get over.
The productivity of Wii games will increase if Wii plus HD comes to reality as porting Xbox games to Wii HD format is likely to be much cheaper than building a game from scratch. The package will improve Wii’s visual effects capabilities with full HD support like Xbox 360 and PS3. Games for Wii would equal the graphic detail level of those of PS3 and Xbox 360 games. It is clear that even if Nintendo is not developing HD technology now, sooner or later they’ll have to go for it.
