Professor Layton and the Curious Village for Nintendo DS

Introduction to Professor Layton and the Curios Village

A perfect package for riddle lovers with a mix of adventure, mystery, and an interesting background story, Professor Layton and the curious village has more than 135 complicated puzzles. The riddles are created by Akira Tago, whose series of puzzle books has sold more than 12 million copies in Japan.  Through the following post we will have a look at the storyline, the bling factor and the official features for the Nintendo DS game.

The Storyline

The game’s story, which is told via a fascinating combination of full motion video and still scenes, involves Professor Layton, known for his puzzle solving abilities, investigating the long afflicted village of St.Mystere. Playing the part of Professor Hershel Layton, you travel to the village along with your apprentice and investigate the details of a bizzare will and search for something called as “The Golden Apple”. In order to solve the mystery of the village you have to go around and talk to the people of St.Mystere who are more than willing to help you; each one you talk to has a riddle ready to be resolved.

The bling factor

You will come across all kinds of brainteasers, from analytical to mathematical riddles, set by the villagers you meet. You may have to create an image, move matchsticks, even solve a math problem to solve the case. As you go along solving the riddles, you will realize that the difficulty level gradually increases, which means that after solving the problem at hand, you’re in for another, more difficult one. You will find Hint Coins scattered around the village, which will help you along. Every time you spend a coin, you get one of the three available hints for each puzzle. You are advised to use your coins wisely, as the rewards for solving a puzzle after receiving a hint is smaller, also you might be left with none when you really need one.
Even though the game gets really challenging, it rarely gets frustrating. There is no time limit, and if a puzzle seems too much to handle, you can always use your hint coins to obtain a clue. Some puzzles are mandatory while others may be optional. Many are hidden and are revealed only when you tap around the screen.
The game is animated and lets you move from one place to another or converse with the villagers you come across by tapping on the screen. You can also tap random nooks and crannies to find hint coins, secret areas, or hidden puzzles. You can make notes and erase them on the touch screen whenever you like.
Once you are through solving the existing puzzles and completing the quest, you could download many more new challenges via Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.

If you’re looking forward to some serious riddle solving, we’d recommend that you try and see if your wits match up to the reputation of the shrewd Professor Layton.
