Everyone remembers Sonic don’t they? The lovable blue hedgehog that had a fancy for collecting gold rings and spinning round the place really fast. Well Sonic is back and he has brought a few friends along as well! The icon of SEGA returns on Playstation 3 for SEGA Superstars Tennis.
The game has 16 playable SEGA heroes including Sonic the Hedgehog, AiAi from Super Monkeyball fame, Ulala of Space Channel 5, Amigo from Samba De Amigo and even Sonic’s enemy Dr.Eggman. Plus there is a whole host more players from SEGA that are waiting to be unlocked as you progress through the game. Every character has a rating for their speed, control, power, spin and all around ability. In addition to their own unique attributes, each character will also come equipped with their own superstar tennis skills, putting a whole new level on each match played! All the courts in the game and the music you hear while playing are based around and inspired by the classic SEGA game’s and their characters. If you where a fan of SEGA once you start playing this all the memories will come flooding back, it’s great. The characters, levels, music, and even some of the game play from SEGA are well integrated in superstars mode. It’s one of the games strong features. Within this mode there is 14 different worlds, each world is based on a well known SEGA game. They’re jam packed with challenges that range from winning both single and doubles matches to mini-games that mix tennis with game play from the classic SEGA games on which the area is based. It makes for a hectic but very amusing game of tennis.
The challenges you face in the game are great and really creative. A good example is the Virtua Squad mini-games, you blast your tennis balls at bad guy targets that pop up but you’ve got to be careful not to hit innocent people just like you would in Virtua Cop.
Exhibition mode offers the chance to challenge Sonic, or the character or your choice, to a match on one of many courts, including Sonic’s home court of Green Hill Zone, or Amigo’s Carnival Park court. Wherever you play there will be a host of SEGA fans cheering you on from court-side and by partaking in crazy doubles matches with your choice of partner, you could end up playing against some pretty unusual couples! Prove your SEGA hero is the shining star of SEGA Superstars Tennis by collecting silverware in the Tournament Mode. There will also be the opportunity to unlock a host of exciting extras.
