The Sony STR-DG 920, 7.1 channel AV receiver creates a video centric environment well suited for a modern high-def home theater experience. Its combination of the latest audio and video technologies make operations easy to command and convenient to follow.
SONY STR-DG 920 Design
Sony STR-DG 920 has a discreet design with minimal buttons except for the four large knobs that control functions like volume and input selection. Also the fluorescent front panel display and onscreen menu system make setup and operation of the receiver easy and fast.
Connectivity
The array of connections include four HDMI inputs and one output, three HD Component inputs and one output along with four composite video and two additional analog audio-only inputs, plus a front panel A/V input for connection of an additional source, such as a camcorder. The Sony STR-DG920 also features a VCR/DVR/DVD Recorder connection loop.
The audio connections include four digital audio inputs, analog stereo audio connections for a CD player, a CD or Cassette audio recorder, and a subwoofer preamp output. The STR-DG920 also has a set of 5.1/7.1 channel audio inputs for 5.1 channel DVD-Audio, SACD, Blue-ray, or HD-DVD 5.1/7.1 channel analog audio connection options. The receiver also has access to multi-channel audio via its HDMI 1.3a connections.
The receiver’s extensive sound processes sing options includeDolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24 with the ability to decode DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby TrueHD soundtracks on Blu-ray Discs and HD-DVDs via its HDMI 1.3a compatible inputs.
Other additional features include seven internal power amplifiers and speaker connections, AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio, remote control, iPod Connectivity and Lip Synch Adjustment. The Sony STR-DG920 also features an automated speaker setup function called Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC).
Although it lacks multi room functionality and its sound quality is a little below mark, at $600 the STR-DG920 is one of the best bargain in this price range with its array of features and great performance.
