A recent press release from T-Mobile spoke about the plans to introduce a USB stick that will run on HSPA+ at the Mobile World Congress 2010. HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Plus) is a high-speed wireless network technology that the T-Mobile has built out only in Philadelphia.

Nationwide operator in the U.S., T-Mobile claims, they are the only operator to provide HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Plus) as an interim technology before rolling out LTE (Long-Term Evolution), a technology that will deliver even faster connections. AT&T, their major competitor, would not be launching anything on the lines to compete.

So far, T-Mobile has launched the HSPA+ network in just Philadelphia market but hopes to roll out the service upgrade across its existing 3G footprint by mid-2010. Claims are made that the speed delivered by this technology could be 3 to 5 times faster than the existing 3G connection.
The USB flash drive is called the Rocket and is made by Huwei. It works on both PC and Mac. In addition to HSPA+, it will work on 3G, EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) and Wi-Fi. Users can use upto 16 GB micro sd memory into the usb stick.
T-Mobile has not revealed the pricing for the product, which will be in the shops in March.
