The Toshiba Satellite A305-S6858 comes with a different design from the usual pinstripe satellite models. It has a glossy wave design over the back which extends to the front. The result is a somewhat mirror like feel that seems to attract fingerprints and smudges. It has a rounded body with included wrist rest, shows strong performance and even charged USB devices when in sleep mode. However this last feature is turned off and must be manually started which take some time.
This laptop has a good 4GB RAM, a 300 MB hard drive and a Vista Home premium OS. The screen is 15.4 inches, the keyboard roomy and the touch pad ergonomic. It has touch sensitive media controls, a glossy finish and a 1.3megapixel camera. The laptop has a small antenna which is meant for surfing the radio but fails indoors. The sounds are high without any low end options making movies a better experience than music. It includes many USB ports with a headphone and microphone jack. The battery life is above average when you include the extended battery but the extra weight can be annoying. The laptop works well during speed and multitasking tasks and shows no signs of slowing down and crashing with ease.
It has all of the usual Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and modem options. The only problems come from the illuminated display on the keyboard and touch pad which can be distracting. It’s cheap price and mainstream performance makes it a great college time laptop to go in for.
