‘Wow’ gadgets

The invisibility cloak may be a bit far off but it is closer than we imagine. Students have developed a material with tiny cat’s eye type beads that project what it sees in front onto the back of the garment to give a kind of ‘invisible’ look to the wearer.

The “retro-reflective projection system” act like giant pixels giving it a very weird look indeed.

Another student invented the Uno which is basically a uni-cycle but powered by electricity. He mounted two wheels side by side and used electric wheel chair motors for power. It is stabilized by gyros and if the rider wants to go faster, he just leans forward.

A ‘green’ way to go to work indeed and it can run for around two hours on just one charge. It looks cool too and, imagine, the inventor is only eighteen. He must have a huge future indeed!

Finally, and still on transport, the Personal Air Vehicle is a car and airplane all in one. It was made for short trips of between one to five hundred miles and uses a rocket engine which doesn’t need the usual pump for the fuel. This makes it lighter and more efficient.

When it lands, the driver just folds in the wings and it becomes the Personal Road Vehicle (car) which means no more waiting at luggage carousels. Made for two people, all safety measures are included including seat belts so it is quite safe indeed.
